And so it comes to pass that the 10th and the 11th are on screen at the same time…

And the universe explodes inexplicably.

I love how Matt looks at David in this interview, like a little boy trying to impress somebody he thinks is cool.

Gallifrey« From space, Gallifrey is seen as a yellow-orange planet and was close enough to central space lanes for spacecraft to require clearance from Gallifreyan Space Traffic Control as they pass through its system (The Invasion of Time, 1978). The planet was protected from physical attack by the impenetrable barrier called the quantum force field, named presumably after the Eye of Harmony, and from teleportation incursions by the transduction barrier - which could be reinforced to repel most levels of this type of technological attack. This prevented all outsiders (with hostile intent, or otherwise) from approaching the planet and allowed the Time Lords to maintain their status of absolute neutrality. It also let them observe the actions of the rest of the Universe without actually taking part in its affairs. These security barriers were breached on occasion by theSontarans, by manipulating the more technological Vardans, who suborned the Doctor into sabotaging both of these from within (The Invasion of Time, 1978). In the Time War, which occurred about the time of the Eighth or the Ninth Doctor, the Daleks waged war on Gallifrey. This war waged for years, and later when Gallifrey’s resources were depleted, the Doctor had to either choose between letting the Daleks conquer Gallifrey and take its technology, making it easier for them to conquer the universe, or destroy the Daleks and Gallifrey along with them. The Doctor was one of two of the sole survivors of this war. The other was the Master. The Daleks had four survivors, and that was all it took to restore their empire. These four survivors were the Cult of Skaro, and their job was to imagine new ways of extermination and survival. The Time Lords’ minds became warped so that they would use the Master, and the drumming in his head, to bring their empire, and Gallifrey, to earth so that would destroy both planets. The Time Lords said this would benefit them because “We will arise to be creatures of consciousness alone, unburdened by these foul bodies.” »
